Testing and Instruments
Testing-
It is possible to test rigid as well as Aero-elastic models of various kinds of structures in this tunnel and to measure, with the help of instrumentation available, parameters of interests such as:
• Velocity Profile
• Turbulence Characteristics
• Pressures
• Force Reactions & Moments
• Displacements
• Accelerations
Instruments-
Load cell:
A five component force balance (model LMC-5511-10), placed beneath the wind tunnel floor, is used to measure the aerodynamic forces, Fx, Fy, Mx, My and Mz. acting on the models. The capacity of the instrument is Fx = Fy = 10 kg, Mx = My = 4 kg-m, Mz = 1 kg-m.

Strainmeter:
Response of models are measured by attaching strain gauges on the outer surface which are connected to a TML dynamic strainmeter (model DA-12D) consisting of 4 channels. A data acquisition card, PCL-206, of M/s Dynalog Microsystems Pvt. Ltd. is used to acquire the strain data.

Measurement of pressure:
A single point pressure measurement instrument by Testo is used to measure instantaneous wind pressure.

In addition, the laboratory also consists of DANTEC hot wire anemometer and APS dual mode amplifier electro seis shaker.
